An Interview With Chorduroy
This past week I was able to interview Taylor Sandoval from the band Chorduroy, who recently released their newest album Voice of Reason last month. After their album release show at the Soda Bar in San Diego and a month of promotions for the album, we get to hear about the specifics of the past, present, and future for the band with what’s to come.
Firstly, with this being your first album release as a group how well do you compare this to your other work with singles and EP’s? Is this just the start of what we can expect to see from you guys in the future
“Yeah, this is basically what we’ve been working on with the new lineup over the past year or so, we wanted to expand our sound more to the heavier and psychedelic side of garage rock and punk. We’re working on a lot of new songs, some of it pretty similar to this album some of it branching off in other directions.”
Surfing also seems to be a big part of your guys' life as a group, and it has an immense influence on the sound of your music as well incorporating local genres too like surf punk. How does that affect the sound or style of your music with your hobbies or locality?
“Most of us do like to hit the waves when it’s good I wouldn’t say it’s really a big inspiration for us these days although it definitely was for our earlier work haha. Currently trying to get away from the typical ‘San Diego Surf’ style.”
I also read up in my research that you had lost a Fender Jaguar Bass in the past, what made that so special to you or your music?
“That sucked it actually got stolen but I was lucky enough to find it on OfferUp a couple of weeks later and got it back.”
Thankfully you were able to get it back! lastly, are there any plans for the future either in tours, new sounds, expanding the current genres, or even collaborations with other artists? Tell me about it!
“Right now we’re focusing on getting on good shows locally and regionally. [We] really want to break into the LA scene and go for a West Coast style of tour when we can. We had a great album release show at Soda Bar last month with around 100 people pulling up which I think is pretty good being a Sunday night. We’re getting back in the studio probably next month to get some new tracks out this year.”
