The "Wizards Glass" EP By Chorduroy: A Quick Overview

San Diego band Chorduroy comes back from their 2021 release with a new EP, Wizards Glass. Hard to pause and difficult not to jam, this EP reminds me of albums like Yeah Yeah Yeahs with witty strong bass and guitar; unapologetically loud and bright in the best way.

Wizards Glass is a track that I could see as the band's quintessential track as Creep is for Radiohead, without the hate of the track from playing it for 30 years. The electric and acoustic guitars work together so well, making an intro that keeps me very excited for the first verse, with that anticipation and excitement continuing into the chorus.

Alien Mask, their most popular song by streams from this EP albeit not the title track, has an electric start reminiscent of indie rock and surf punk. This makes sense for a band from sunny San Diego but refreshing to see in 2024. Along with a classic guitar riff consistently throughout, the song shines as much as punk thrives.

Blind Driving is my favorite from the EP for its lyrics mostly- a song I feel very distinctly is anti "telling-me-what-to-do." Embracing a punk aesthetic and sound fully along with hints of stoner rock brings a unique and refreshing sound to local music here. This and Alien Mask feel very influenced by 90s punk and garage rock as well, which is fitting for our rich history of both genres here in San Diego.

Wizards Glass is a 3-song EP with more to come, I am very excited to hear more from Chorduroy and the waves they are making! Thankfully you don't have to wait for more, as they just released their new album Voice of Reason on May 9th. Make sure to check out the album in its completion!
