WHEN DID YOU START MAKING MUSIC?
"I got into making music when I was about 17, but the spark started earlier. As a kid, I took Ballet, Breakdancing, and Hip-Hop lessons. One day in Breakdancing class, I saw my teacher mixing two songs together on his laptop, and I was hooked. I asked him what he was using, and he told me about Audacity. That night, I went home, downloaded it on my auntie’s work computer, and started messing around, cutting up songs I liked and rearranging them. That’s how my music journey began."
WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET INSPIRED? IS THERE A CERTAIN PROCESS YOU HAVE OR DOES INSPIRATION COME OUT OF THE BLUE?
"Inspiration comes to me from all sorts of places. I love spending time in nature or exploring obscure genres of music on the fringes of the internet. It’s funny—sometimes a song idea will spark from something someone says in an interview or even from a joke a friend makes. Ultimately, it’s about tuning into whatever I’m feeling at that moment and capturing that truth in sound. When it comes to production, I usually start with the melodies, and for writing, I tend to begin with the chorus."
WHAT IS YOUR NEWEST SINGLE "KISS KISS KISS" ABOUT? WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU TRYING TO GET ACROSS WITH THIS SINGLE?
"My latest song, 'kiss kiss kiss,' is really about how much I love kissing my girlfriend haha—though, honestly, that's not far from the truth. Before she came into my life, I was regularly taking Xanax and drinking alcohol, not really putting in the effort I needed in my day job or my art, and just feeling overall aimless. She’s helped me see that love is the answer to most of life’s problems. This song reflects the journey leading up to our relationship, where we are now, and the future we’re building together."
WHAT WAS THE RECORDING PROCESS LIKE?
"The recording process for 'kiss kiss kiss' started with a loop that Michael Harrison sent me. I spent some time chopping it up, removing elements I didn’t need, and adding character to the parts I kept. I added my own drums and threw in some glitchy sounds to keep the beat flowing. Once the beat was done, I could immediately hear the chorus melody in my head, but I wasn’t sure about the words yet. So I sat there for about an hour, thinking about my relationship with my girlfriend—all our amazing conversations and adventures. She’s always pushing me to stay on top of my responsibilities and keep chasing my dreams. I just let it all flow into the lyrics from there."
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF RECORDING THIS SINGLE?
"My favorite part of recording 'kiss kiss kiss' was definitely mixing the vocals. It’s always amazing to hear how a track truly comes to life once the vocals are added—you can really feel the passion and intention behind the song at that point. I usually keep my newest work to myself for a while before sharing it with family, friends, and eventually the world. That moment of completion is really special because it’s the first time you hear the track the way everyone else will."
WHAT WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF RECORDING THIS SONG?
"The most challenging part of recording 'kiss kiss kiss' was definitely nailing the first verse, especially that high part at the beginning where my voice keeps climbing before I sing, 'and all my life, I was wasting time.' I think I had to retake that at least 15 times before I got the vocal melody just right. It was tough but worth it."
WHAT CAN FANS OF YOUR MUSIC EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?
"Fans can look forward to an October/November release for my new album, yellow, which includes 'kiss kiss kiss' as part of the tracklist. The album also features some incredible artists like Powfu, SadBoyProlific, ulovely, lunzero, mo$h, rare, Harel Atias, Michael Harrison, and Photographic Memory. While I don't have any shows scheduled at the moment, I perform regularly in and around Los Angeles, so there will definitely be one soon. Keep an eye out for acoustic versions, meet and greets, special live performances, merch, and physical copies of the album when it drops."
