With the start of this publication, we thought it would be a great idea to start throwing monthly shows to promote local musicians and contribute to the San Diego scene. Make sure to keep an eye out for these shows held at Amplified Studios which is located at 2796 Loker West Avenue, Suite 102 Carlsbad.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the local talent that was featured at the 1/27/23 show.

The night of January 27th, 2023, started out with local singer, songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer, Samer Bakri. Samer Bakri played us an amazing stripped down acoustic set that consisted of just acoustic guitar and vocals. Samer’s most recent release, “?!” that came out April 1st, 2022, and is a great EP to put on in the car while driving home and the sun is setting. By taking lo-fi pop and adding in his own contemporary elements, Samer Bakri’s music will leave you feeling soothed and satisfied.

!RRATZ!

Next up on the lineup was !RRATZ!, a band that recently just formed at the end of 2022. !RRATZ! was started by Riot Evans, formerly known as Xoriolove. The band consists of four members and I would personally describe their genre of music as a mix of emo and indie rock. !RRATZ! is currently in the process of recording their first set of singles, and listeners can expect much more show dates to be released in the next couple months. If you hate your ex, !RRATZ! is definitely the band for you.

Following !RRATZ! we had local talent Jack Jupiter performing. Jack Jupiter likes to describe himself as a “local boy making dream pop, sipping lemonade, and thinking about his dog” which I think perfectly sums up the general feel of his music. Jack Jupiter’s most recent release came out May 26, 2022 and is titled “Heaven and Heat” which audience members were lucky enough to get a chance to hear at the show. Jack does a great job at putting a smile on your face whenever he/other band members are performing. You can really see it in their faces that they are happy to be there and sharing the music they have been working on. At the end of the set, Jack mentioned to us that Jack Jupiter will soon become a band called Strawberry Cassette. Make sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming project.

Last but certainly not least, The Renters closed out the night for us. The Renters are a local San Diego band (just like all of our other prior acts) that have been a part of the local music scene here since around 2018. The Renters can be described as indie/surf rock as they completely and perfectly capture the sound of San Diego within their music. 2022 was a big year for The Renters. They released a new album titled “People Places and Things” while also releasing the “Eastlake Studios Live Session” which both were extremally enjoyable to listen through. I’d say one of my favorites by them (and I’m sure fans of the band can agree) is their song “706” which came out in 2021. I’ve personally been in connection with The Renters for a couple years now and can confidently say they truly are just as positive and kind-hearted as their music makes you feel.

Once again, we thank all the bands/artists that came out and performed the night of 1/27/23 and we cannot wait for the next one! If you or someone you know would like to perform at one of our next showcases, please check out our “contact” page and send us a message. Next Amplifiedsd showcase will be on 2/24/23.
