North County Bluegrass Group: A Sound That Will Never Die

In the 1600s, settlers worldwide came to America to build a new life for themselves and their families. They brought their food, language, music, and much more with them. Our ancestors from Ireland, Scotland, and England brought their music which would become the basic roots of the bluegrass music we hear today—by the 1940s in Southern Appalachia, a band formed by Bill Monroe called The Bluegrass Boys. With their fiddle, bass, mandolin, and guitar in hand, these men started taking the southern states by storm with their "backwoods" sound. The Bluegrass Boys had such an impact on this style of music that the music itself was named after them, becoming the bluegrass genre we now know today. Over the next 40 years, bluegrass music spread west and found a home in Southern California.

In 1989 a group called the North County Bluegrass Group was born. The group had musicians from all over who had moved into the area, bringing their different dialects of the genre as well. Over the past 34 years, this group has grown to well over 100 members, all of who are very talented, charismatic, inviting, and passionate. With the plucking of the banjo and the cry of the fiddle, they host a concert once a month on the first Tuesday at Round Table Pizza in Escondido, CA., where they put on a wonderful concert and share their knowledge and wisdom on the craft. They even hold a few events throughout the year, including the upcoming Summergrass Festival in Vista on August 18-20. If you love bluegrass or are curious about the music, please take a look at this group! They will take you in like your family and teach you everything you could possibly want to know!
