Better Before’s “Tasteless” Is a Spiraling Ride Through Noise and Nostalgia
There’s something beautifully reckless about Better Before. The San Diego-based trio doesn’t just play alternative punk—they hurl it, full-speed, like a bottle across a dive bar floor. Their latest single, “Tasteless,” is a testament to that wild urgency. Set to release on Friday, April 11th, the track is noisy, unpolished in all the right ways, and full of the kind of lyrical bite that makes you want to scream-sing in a crowded room.

Better Before—comprised of Andrew Walters (vocals/guitar), James Regan (bass), and Taylor Brown (drums)—draws from a tried-and-true foundation of punk and indie rock influences. Think the emotionally fraught storytelling of Jawbreaker, the guitar-driven chaos of Dinosaur Jr., and the raw-heart anthems of The Replacements. The result is a sound that feels familiar but freshly unhinged—a sonic middle finger dipped in nostalgia and distortion.
“We are really excited to share our music and look forward to getting more of our songs recorded and out there,” says singer and guitarist Andrew Walters. “We are a group of miscreants who just enjoy playing and writing music together, and feel lucky to have the opportunity."
Following up on their debut single, Better Before is doubling down on their mission: loud, honest music with no filter and no frills. This isn't music that’s chasing algorithms or polished perfection—it's for people who feel things deeply, loudly, and maybe a little recklessly.
As San Diego’s local music scene continues to thrive in pockets of bars, DIY venues, and garage spaces, Better Before is quickly carving out their own lane. ““Tasteless” is more than a song—it’s a statement. It doesn’t smooth things over or play it safe; it leans into the noise, the chaos, and the emotion.
