The Fazes is a pop-rock/indie band from San Diego, California. Over the years, I've watched The Fazes grow into something magical, each new release stepping up from the next. So let's get to know the band and venture into the mindset of The Fazes!

TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME. WHAT INSPIRED IT?
"Originally, the band's name was Lesbian Tendencies, something me and my friends have joked about naming our band since high school. However, when I booked our first show, I decided to take the band more seriously and have a meaningful name. Our name, 'The Fazes,' comes from the idea that change is inevitable in our lives. We can find comfort in that- as each different 'faze' or life experience can teach us more about ourselves and humanity. Our songs explore those themes, touching on many different experiences that hopefully people can relate to."
HOW DID YOU ALL MEET?
"Our band currently consists of 6 members, which are Isela (vocals), Sofia (drums), Reana (synths), Eric (bass), Zro (guitar), and Eli (guitar). I, Isela, started the band in 2018 with some friends. I had met Sofia from playing shows she would go to, and she had offered to play drums for us. I met Reana online, and we met up to do a tattoo. We got along really well, especially when playing music together, so I had asked her to join. We met Eric through Reana, who had been friends since childhood. And we met Zro and Eli through Instagram when I made a post looking for guitar players to join my band."
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO FORM A BAND TOGETHER?
"In high school I would go to shows and fell in love with how fun the surf punk scene was. I loved the energy and decided I wanted to be a part of it by starting my own band."

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW MEMORY AND WHY?
"A top show memory would be when we played in Brooklyn, New York, at The Knitting Factory. It felt surreal that music could take us across the country to play. It's always been a dream to play in NY, so that was a moment where it came true."
WHAT IS YOUR CRAZIEST LIVE SHOW STORY?
"We just threw our album release show last month, and there was a lot of pressure leading up to it because we wanted to do well. We had set up the stage and sound the night before, even rehearsing so we could be prepared. Right before we were about to play, Eli's guitar broke! He's a lefty, so no one from any of the other bands could even let him borrow a guitar. He had to drive home to get his old guitar. Thankfully we live down the street from that venue, so it didn't take long, but it felt pretty crazy that it would break the moment we were about to play. It definitely gave us some stress. The show turned out beautifully, and seeing so many people come out for us was really fulfilling."

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES?
"The band's influences include The Voidz, Inner Wave, Metronomy, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, and The Strokes. If you like these bands, you will like our music!"
WHAT ARE SOME FUTURE ENDEAVORS WE CAN EXPECT FROM YOU?
"After just releasing our album 'UNDERGROUND STARZ,' we plan to keep playing shows and songs from the album. In addition, we're planning a music video for the song 'Judas Kiss.' Along with some live sessions. We're excited to start on our next album, so we'll also write and record demos for that soon."
