meet the band: sunshower

Sunshower is a four-person band from all different backgrounds, all born and raised in California.

Where are you all from, what is your background, and what brought you all together?

“Luke Whitehead, our drummer and bassist, as well as Luke McLaughlin, our guitarist, and drummer, are both from Carlsbad. Brandon, our singer and guitarist, as well as David, our bassist and guitarist, are both from Oceanside. What brought us together was when 2 of my [Brandon] friends got grounded, so I went on the lookout for musicians. I found Luke McLaughlin and some other guys to join the band. When members had to leave for college, we added Luke and David.”

How would you best describe the music you make?

“We would describe it as surf punk and alternative.”

What is the story behind the name “SunShower?” How did you come up with your band name?

“Our ex-drummer thought of it; the original name was Doberman Mosh, but we opted for something more fitting.”

How would you best describe your creative process when creating music?

“Brandon and Luke McLaughlin write the songs. We either write our ideas or meet up to figure it out together.”

Let’s talk about your latest release, “Back to Cali.” What was your main inspiration behind this track?

“We sat down and decided to make a summer song; I'd say we accomplished that.”

What is the story behind your most popular song, “Rude?”

“That's a song Luke brought to the group, we tweaked it out and pushed it out.”

Where do you see your band in five years?

“Our goal is to play at the Kilby Music Festival.”

You are about to play a show, what are the top three songs that you play beforehand to get pumped up?

“Anything by Arcy Drive, the Growlers, Mac Demarco, and Metallica.”

Who are some artists or bands that influence SunShower?

“Backseat lovers, Dominic Fike, Mac Demarco, Surf Curse, and Oxide.”

What is your favorite way to unwind after playing a show?

“Team movie night at Luke W's house.”
