Mosh to VOSH at Brick by Brick on October 20th!

Calling all goths, emos, metalheads, and darkwave lovers! Mark your calendars. VOSH is bringing their dark, electrifying sound to San Diego on October 20th at the legendary heavy music venue Brick by Brick! Get ready for a night of heavy eyeliner, all-black everything, and a dose of gothic whimsy from this rising DC-based band. With Chris Moore driving the rhythm on drums, Josephine Olivia captivating with haunting vocals, and Tim Bean shredding on guitar, VOSH delivers a sound reminiscent of iconic acts like Siouxsie & The Banshees, Ministry, and Nine Inch Nails. Their brooding blend of industrial, pop, darkwave, and metal is bound to resonate. I had the pleasure of getting the band to answer a couple of questions about their origins, unforgettable live performances, and the powerful message behind their music. Check out all the event details at the end of the article. Now, let's dive in!

TELL ME ABOUT THE FORMATION OF VOSH. HOW AND WHEN DID THE BAND FORM?

"Chris and Josephine met in 2017 playing a show together (in separate bands) and became friends/ended up working on music together later on in 2019 with their friend Carson Cox, and over the years it’s changed forms/members, with Josephine and Chris being anchor members. Our debut album was released last March, and since then we have toured all over. Working on LP2 now!"

IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE BAND'S NAME?

"We wanted to come up with an original name, these days there are so many bands and a lot of names are taken. We wanted something powerful, sexy, and commanding, something unique, (and) simple. That’s how Vosh came to be."

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR LATEST ALBUM, "VESSEL" WHICH CAME OUT IN MARCH OF LAST YEAR. WHAT WAS THE RECORDING PROCESS LIKE?

"We wrote and recorded everything in our home, the majority being written during 2020 when the world was shut down. We are both from the world of DIY so we just thought why not just use what we have to create something new."

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF PERFORMING LIVE? IS THERE A PARTICULAR ENERGY OR MOMENT YOU LOOK FORWARD TO DURING YOUR SHOWS?

"I love the moment we begin- when all the craziness of getting prepared and set up, loading in, dressing up- it’s all for that first moment when you meet eyes with the audience and there’s an almost uninterrupted connection that’s pure existence- no words, just being," Josephine states.

WHAT IS THE CORE MESSAGE/FEELING YOU ARE TRYING TO GET ACROSS THROUGH YOUR MUSIC?

"There’s not just one message, I think it’s just about connection. The live performance especially feels very raw and truthful, emotive. It’s about being in the same room with everyone, and really being present."

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?

"We are dropping an EP in the next week or so for pre-order, and working on LP2 for 2025. We will tour Europe Feb 2025 as well. More to come!"

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?

"Everyone get out to our gigs- we are out for 5 weeks in North America and can’t wait to meet you all."
