ARTIST NAME, WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC YOU MAKE, AND WHEN YOU STARTED MAKING MUSIC.

"My name is Sara Andrea DeMoranville, and I go by Sara Andrea. I am a singer-songwriter and producer who writes and creates music using a combination of vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, piano, and software instruments. It isn't easy to narrow down the genre of music I make, but I'd say it ranges from singer-songwriter/acoustic to electronic-pop, with many aspects in between! I've played music my whole life, bouncing around different instruments growing up, but it wasn't until 2012ish that I really started to write my own songs and consider myself a 'singer-songwriter.' Although I've put a lot of my original work on social media and SoundCloud in the past, it wasn't until 2022 that I released my debut single on Spotify and all other platforms. Before that, I had some work released in collaboration with other producers."

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START MAKING MUSIC?

"Music had always been around as I bounced from choir to orchestra to band throughout grade school, but it wasn't until high school that I truly became inspired to start making my own music. Before that, sports were my main hobby, and I became tunnel-visioned as a soccer player. In my first year of high school, however, I tore my ACL, and (not to be dramatic) it changed my life forever. At the time, I felt like the world I knew was over, and I could barely see past the recovery period that laid before me. I remember sitting on the couch one day after surgery with my leg all wrapped up, bored out of my mind when my mom came to me with her old guitar. She sat down next to me and taught me the first three chords I learned; the rest is history. As I grew older and went through emotional times and life changes, I realized just how therapeutic songwriting was for me, and it's stuck with me ever since!"

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR NEXT SINGLE RELEASE, "RAIN IN APRIL." WHAT IS THE SONG ABOUT? WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU TRYING TO GET ACROSS WITH THIS SINGLE?

"I'm so excited for 'Rain in April'...I wrote this song about three years ago, sitting in my old childhood bedroom back in Rhode Island with just me and my guitar. It was a stormy day, and I had recently gone through a breakup, so I felt extra emotional. One thing about my music is that I'm often inspired by nature, and I reflect on my connection to it, so when I started strumming chords on the guitar, the lyrics just started flowing out of me naturally. The song reflects on relationships and how allowing yourself to be vulnerable is okay. Like the rain that tends to be frequent in Rhode Island in April, we can't help when we 'fall,' so we should embrace the feeling."

"RAIN IN APRIL" IS A COOL NAME FOR A SONG; WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THAT NAME?

"I chose this name because it felt literal and figurative for the song. It was a rainy day in April when I wrote it, and the song is about how we can't help when we choose to 'fall' - just like the rain in April."

WHAT WAS THE RECORDING PROCESS LIKE? DID YOU RECORD IN A STUDIO OR AT HOME?

"The recording process was fun for me - I originally wrote this as a very acoustic song, but over the years, I've begun to explore more electronic styles of music for my work. As April approached this year, I decided it would be the perfect time to resurface this song and bring in electronic elements. I produced the music in my amateur home studio using Logic Pro X and then connected with Amplified Studios to re-record the vocals and give the project the professional mixing and mastering it needed!"

WHAT ARTIST DO YOU LOOK UP TO?

"One artist I look up to is Chelsea Cutler. Her melodies are beautiful and unique, and her songwriting feels so genuine and straight from the heart. I can relate to her music style because she also creates both acoustic music and electronic/electronic pop. I absolutely love her collaborations with Louis the Child and Kasbo and further admire her for continuing to release her own work that's a bit more acoustic. She has such a good, natural balance that I aim to achieve as I continue to navigate my own style of music."

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT IN THE FUTURE FROM YOU? MORE MUSIC? ANY UPCOMING SHOWS?

"I will definitely be releasing more music over the next year and beyond since I have so many songs I want to bring to life! My upcoming releases will mostly be electronic/pop as I finalize those existing projects. However, I look forward to introducing my many acoustic/singer-songwriter songs - there might even be an album of them within the next few years! In the meantime, you can catch me around San Diego playing acoustic sets, which you can stay up-to-date with on my Instagram page (@sarademoranville)."
