Jewel: the backstory

The Singer- Songwriter Jewel Kiltcher, also known as Jewel was born in Payson, Utah and spent her early years in Homer alaska where she began her music journey as a singing and yodeling duo with her father– also a local musician. She then moved to San Diego, CA. where she began singing and playing guitar at local clubs and cafes regularly. She received early recognition by singing at the InnerChange Cafe here in town as well as Java Joe’s Coffee shop when it was located in Poway.
Jewel Moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1995 to pursue her music career. In that same year she aligned with Atlantic records and released her debut album “Pieces of You.” One of the tracks on that album “Who will save your soul” became a hit single, and the album was a critical and commercial success. With her confessional, introspective lyrics and Folk- inspired pop music, Jewel gained a large and devoted following.
In addition to releasing multiple platinum-selling albums, Jewel has had numerous hit songs including “You Were Meant for Me,” “Hands,” and “Standing Still.” Jewel has won a Grammy Award and has been nominated for multiple others. Her following projects have included a mix of genres, like country, pop and folk– she has even released multiple Christmas and childrens albums.
Her other accomplishments include acting in films and television shows, hosting T.V. shows and writing books such as a poetry collection and her memoir. With all of this success, Jewel hasn't forgotten to give back. As a philanthropist, she has supported numerous charitable causes through-out her career.
