New Band Alert: Meet Blue Rust
NEW BAND ALERT!
That's right, you heard me! They just formed here in San Diego, and you'll want to avoid looking past them. Their name is Blue Rust, and they are making themselves known in the music scene right now. Originating on March 13th of this year, the band is made up of Zach Francis (Guitarist and Lead Vocalist), David Ayala (Drums), and Emmett McDonald (Bass Guitar). The group formed with a shared passion for early 2000s garage rock and the dream to bring that genre and experience back into the San Diego music scene. Their lead guy, Zach, is exceptionally gifted with the ability to play by ear. This makes it so he can watch someone play a song and immediately know how to play it right after just by watching and listening. At age five, he was diagnosed with autism, allowing him to have this superpower that most of us dream of having. At 19, he was busking on the pier, where he met his other two bandmates. Since they are so new, I figured id ask them a few questions so we could get to know them better.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIAN?
Zach Francis: “The band Kaleo.”
David Ayala: “Dave Grohl.”
Emmett McDonald: “Maynard James Keenan.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL?
Zach Francis: “Shark.”
David Ayala: “Dog.”
Emmett McDonald: “My dog, T'Pol.”
ADVICE TO NEW/YOUNG MUSICIANS WANTING TO FORM A BAND?
Zach Francis: “Don't wait. Just do it. Grab a guitar and write it down.”
David Ayala: “Your playing should be good, and then after, make sure you go to places where live music is and jam with people.”
Emmett McDonald: “Save time; pursue the craft and ensure you care for yourself.”
