SFSE
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble is a 9 piece heavy, instrumental funk band from San Diego, CA. Their influences are vast and include Hip Hop groups like Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest, as well as funk and soul masters like Isaac Hayes, The Meters, and James Brown. Their last two LPs debuted in the top 15 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart. SFSE is equally at home in the studio as they are on the stage, where their original songs transform and take on new life through live performance. They have shared the stage with Kamasi Washington, Quantic, Lee Fields, Monophonics, Jungle Fire, and many more.
Mochilero
A five piece band from San Diego originating as a tribute to Jamaican classics and vocal groups from the late 1960s/early 1970s. Members of the band have respectively backed several Jamaican legends including Ken Boothe, Keith and Tex, Rudy Mills, and Derrick Morgan. The band’s current sound has shifted to more of an amalgamation of Jamaican dancehall and lovers rock with a heavy influence of American disco and funk. The band’s first original album is due to be released this year.
Spacehall Sound Machine
Spacehall Sound Machine is a psychedelic dance band based in San Diego, CA. The six piece instrumental ensemble is the brainchild of Matt Bozzone, a drummer who has spent 10+ years touring the U.S. with a variety of artists in the global groove scene, including Nigerian afrobeat masters Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. In 2022, Bozzone and bandmate Mitchum Yacoub played percussion for Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 on six U.S. tour dates, including a performance at Desert Daze. Weeks after that performance, Spacehall Sound Machine played their debut show. Combining West African & Latin rhythms with elements of dub, post-punk, and psychedelic rock, the ensemble creates hypnotic grooves designed to move bodies on the dance floor and take adventurous minds on a journey.
