Since the inevitable end of the Covid-19 Pandemic an even larger and more determined group of musicians and artists have emerged from the dark and murky depths of their bedrooms and garages ready to take the San Diego Music Scene by storm. Through the storm of bands trying to push out of the underground, here are the top five bands in the San Diego Underground you should be watching into 2024.

Bleacher Creatures

Emerging from the depths of San Diego’s grimiest football field comes punk outfit Bleacher Creatures. Although somewhat new to the San Diego scene, Bleacher Creatures have wasted no time solidifying themselves as an important asset to South County. Bleacher Creatures offer powerful vocals with locked in melodies and fast moving punk beats. Bleacher Creatures’ first single titled “A Trip To The Moon” offers a look at the mellower side of the band. Catching the band live and you’ll see the wilder, angrier side. Whatever your musical tastes, Bleacher Creatures has something you’ll surely enjoy.

Dead Rosetta

Dead Rosetta have become somewhat of local celebrities in San Diego and North County. With performances akin to somewhat of a choreographed hardcore-metal-dance it’s not hard to understand why. Dead Rosetta have established themselves as exceptional performers and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Dead Rosetta are bringing technical hardcore punk to the forefront with their new single “Hide”. It offers a new look into the band's musical abilities which are highlighted more and more with each release.

DOA burst out into the San Diego college scene last year and it’s no surprise they’ve done well. Dolphins On Acid encapsulates the stereotypical style of San Diego, bright indie leads with a laid-back surfer’s attitude. They have released three singles over the course of 2023, their most recent being “Marigold”. They perform with the energy of seasoned professionals and continue to grow their following performing with the likes of Saint Luna and Blank Space. Dolphins On Acid continue to impress and there’s no doubt their San Diego vibes will breach new territory.

Though they hail from Long Beach, California, Gingsu has solidified themselves as an important part of the San Diego scene. Gingsu has been creating their self described “genre-fuck garage rock” since 2021 and they’ve been steaming forward ever since. Gingsu has amassed a loyal following in San Diego and recently released their debut album “Rattaca''. Gingsu provides a grungy 90s-inspired take on garage rock that explores some pop-punk influences. With their electric and ever-evolving performances, no one should be sleeping on the magic of Gingsu.
