Meet the Local San Diego Band Home View
Home View is a band from San Diego, California, that makes unique genre-crossing music. Today, we will be talking with Joseph, the original member of the band, about his journey in the local music scene, Home View’s music, and much more. So, without further ado, let's see what's going on with the band Home View.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME. HOW DID Y'ALL NAME YOURSELVES?
"In all honesty, the name Home View has 0 significance to me. I just thought those two words sounded cool with each other. Our former drummer and I were brainstorming band names when we were in the process of changing the name and landed on that one."
HOW DID THE CURRENT BAND ALL MEET?
"I met Rob while he was in another band. Just by talking about guitar stuff and we ended up becoming friends. I'm the only original member of the band. So when I was looking for new members, I just posted on my story about people who would wanna join. He swiped up on it. Before that, we only really knew each other as the 'dude in that band.' But, we met up to mess around on guitar and…boom. I love that dude. He is my lil poo bear. And with our bassist, Jorge, it was kinda the same deal. I knew him from another band and hit him up, asking if he wanted to join. He was down, so we jammed, and he was a perfect fit. A recent addition is Emi on drums—same story. I love Emi. He's a handsome young man."
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW MEMORY AND WHY?
"November 5th at a house in SDSU. We opened for Mexican Slum Rats (a great band and even better people). It was our first show with Emi on drums! It just popped off. I have never seen a room go as hard for us as that crowd did. That show will always be a core memory for me, and I'll never forget it.”
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES?
"A whole bunch. We all have different influences, so it's hard to pinpoint. But musically, we pull from different genres like shoegaze, alternative, emo, indie, etc. So our sound is constantly evolving. I always struggle with this question."
TELL ME ABOUT THE RECORDING PROCESS FOR "HAUNTED BY MY DAYDREAMS."
"Nothing crazy. We just recorded with our homie, Dylan Smith of Purest Bond. We did it at Valle Verde: his lil home studio setup and drums at Yore. I love recording with him, super nice fella and knows what he's doing. Then we had Angel of Los Saints mix the song, and he absolutely KILLED it. Love him."
WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING IN A LOCAL BAND?
"It definitely has its pros and cons. Personally, I always had points of writer's block or not feeling like it's growing much… I'm always hungry like I want more or just never satisfied. Which I'm sure other local musicians can relate to, and it sucks. It's something I need to get over. Every time we do something that's really sick, I can't just stop and appreciate it. It's always kinda just like, 'alright, back to the grind.' But besides that, it's sick. I like making reverb music with my friends. But I'll say the best outcome from all this is the friends I've made and the people I've met. Shout out to the homies; y'all know who you are!"
WHAT IS YOUR CRAZIEST LIVE SHOW STORY?
"The same one as my favorite show memory. Another one is when people jumped over the barricade to stage dive when we played the House of Blues in January."
WHAT ARE SOME FUTURE ENDEAVORS WE CAN EXPECT FROM YOU?
"4 track EP. Maybe some shows."
