NAME, WHAT INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY, AND WHERE YOU ARE FROM.
"Yoddles, I'm Matthew Berry, aka thelostnoiz, singer-songwriter with some guitar skills from Oceanside, California!"
TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR START. HOW DID YOU GET INTO MAKING MUSIC?
"I started making music on my mom's tape deck. It had a record button, and I would dub over her church tapes, singing improvised versions of my own tunes mixed with whatever else I had heard on the radio. From there, I joined a Christian rock group in the 6th grade. I led a popular pop-punk group, Without Warning, in high school; we broke up after a brief stint on Warped Tour 2010. After that, I attempted to pursue my musical theater career, landing me at the Fringe in Scotland. I had a profound change when I went to Europe, and I ended up busking the streets for a couple of months, living out of my backpack. That changed my life, and I didn't play in bands for a while for whatever reason after that. So I took some time away from music and lost my voice in many ways. Once I started playing again, a few people wanted me to be tailored to fit their musical journey; I did not want to conform or fit a mold, so I became thelostnoiz instead of using my surname, Matthew Berry. Thelostnoiz has no restrictions, its genre is ever-changing, and its message is never too consistent. That being said, it's the most honest project I've ever created."
WHAT INSPIRES THE MUSIC YOU MAKE? AKA, WHAT DO YOU DO TO GET INSPIRED?
"I was asked this recently on a podcast, and I don't know why I couldn't come up with an answer, but it's life, Mother Earth, Father Sky, the devil, god dynamics, the dark, and the light, duality. Some heavy emotional valleys have been laced with the songbirds that kept me alive. I struggled a lot in high school, into my twenties, and even today, being 31, I battle with my mental health to tell myself I am enough, that I'm blessed to be making music and living by the beach, that I can't control a vast majority of this meteorite, so I might as well slow down and enjoy it if I can. Easier said than done. My perspective is subject to change without notice."
LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR NEWEST RELEASE, "SELF ENTITLED EP," WHICH CAME OUT ON MAY 28TH OF THIS YEAR. WHAT WAS THE RECORDING PROCESS LIKE?
"It was wild. I remember thinking I was prepared but only had parts of my songs figured out. A lot of my songwriting is done meditatively. I no longer force myself to write; I go with what flows naturally. I'm so grateful for Harry and Marc's musicianship and how they helped me hoist the sails on this. It was a raft on its course, and now it's a ship sailing along the shore."

WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE WHEN RECORDING THIS EP?
"Biggest challenge was finishing the damn thing. I sat on versions of these songs for weeks, getting advice and waiting for someone to critique it. Then, I sent it to record labels, producers, and a lot of my music community, trying to get someone to convince me not to release it. So, this is it. I wasn't finished with it, but I would have sat on it for another year. Also, I have more things to release, so we gotta get this baby out there!"
WHAT IS THE OVERALL MESSAGE YOU HOPE PEOPLE TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EP? DOES IT REVOLVE AROUND ONE MAJOR THEME, OR DID YOU FIND YOURSELF COVERING MANY DIFFERENT TOPICS?
"These three songs are all about mental health. But, if you don't like that topic, you'll still like these songs. Overall, they all are meant to be reminders that you're okay. I'm okay. We are all okay. This world is nuts, it's beautiful, but come on, this is some crazy stuff we're running with here. Let these songs give you some peace when you're stressing out. That's what the message is."
WHAT IS THE SONG YOU ARE THE PROUDEST OF ON THIS EP?
"Oh, Geez! So the song that will take my music to new places is definitely 'Om Mani Padme Hum,' but I'm most proud of 'SoulFace.' It's my second time recording this song; we nailed it this time. It's a personal song to me. After you listen to the song, you know that. You will only hear this song live if it's at the Amplified open mic. It's been cut from every set list I've ever made."
WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?
"My future, well, you can bet some super duper things are in the works. Come out and see our local release show on June 2nd at Pourhouse. Music release-wise, there's a full-length album finishing up. More on that soon. I'm doing sad boi raps and punk rock themes lately, so maybe I'll release some of that too one day!"
