SD Based Bar/Live Music Spot: The Kraken
If you enjoy live music, good people, and cheap drinks, look no further than The Kraken, located on Highway 101 in Cardiff by the Sea.
Doug Aldred opened The Kraken in 1976 after leaving Detroit to pursue the dream of opening a bar. Since 1976, this tiny dive bar has become a hidden gem in the San Diego music scene.
If you ever go to The Kraken, you'll notice that once at the front door, you are immediately greeted by one of the many lovely bartenders who are fast on their feet and always on point with orders. If you look to the right, you will notice a stage and dance floor where they host live music every night. As you walk towards the back of the bar, you'll notice the walls are littered with the bar's history in the form of magazine articles, pictures, and even signed memorabilia.
Out back, you will find a couple of pool tables and a great view of the nature preserve it is next to. Undoubtedly, The Kraken is one of my favorite places to catch local bands. As mentioned before, there is live music every night of the week! You got your classic rock, punk, and even the occasional country artist swing on through. If you're in the mood for music, drinks, and sports, I highly recommend the Kraken! You can find their monthly music calendar on their Facebook page.
