BAND MEMBERS' NAMES, WHAT EACH PERSON PLAYS, WHERE YOU ARE FROM, AND WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC YOU MAKE.

"Diego: Guitar, David: Drums, Alex: Bass, Tony: Vocals. We're a hardcore band from San Diego, California."

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE NAME BENT BLUE. WHAT INSPIRED THAT NAME?

"It doesn't have a ton of meaning, but we like the two-word, four-letter promptness of it. Bent can mean pissed or intent on something, and blue alluded to emotion, so we ran with it, haha."

HOW/WHEN DID THE BAND FORM? WAS IT CHALLENGING TO GET THE BAND TOGETHER?

"We all found each other on Craigslist a few years ago. For myself (Tony), I had recently moved back to California after being away from school for a while. I wanted to start a band but didn't know anyone, so it took six months of essentially blind-dating other musicians until I found people with the influences I hoped to mesh on."

ANY ADVICE FOR OTHERS LOOKING TO START A BAND IN THE SD MUSIC SCENE?

"If you have even the smallest desire to start a band, just go for it. You don't have to be a good musician to start something cool. As for San Diego, the city has a cool scene with a proud heritage in alternative music. If you want to be respected in the scene, you have to be involved in the community. That could be starting a zine, recording shows, or starting a label. At a minimum, show up to shows, don't be an a**hole, and support the other bands in the scene."

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MOST MEMORABLE LIVE SHOW EXPERIENCE.

"It's hard to pick. I really love any show with crowd participation and energy."

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SD MUSIC SCENE? DO YOU THINK IT IS BETTER OR WORSE THAN OTHER MUSIC SCENES IN ANY WAY?

"I think every scene is different. San Diego is in a really good place right now. You see the same faces at shows, which builds friendships and community. There are a ton of young kids starting really cool bands, which means the scene has longevity."

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR MOST RECENT RELEASE, THE ALBUM "WHERE DO RIPPLES GO?" THAT CAME OUT IN 2022. WHAT IS THE OVERALL MESSAGE/THEME OF THIS ALBUM?

"The theme is about having confidence and saying things with your chest. The record is a mix of external societal observations and internal conflict."

WHAT WAS THE RECORDING PROCESS LIKE? WERE THERE ANY CHALLENGES YOU RAN INTO WHEN RECORDING?

"Recording is always a bit nerve-wracking. You get used to shows because you play them so often. But recording only happens a few times in your life. The process went smoothly, though. We're really happy with the way things turned out."

WHAT CAN FANS OF BENT BLUE EXPECT FROM YOU GUYS IN THE FUTURE?

"Right now, we're just writing music, looking forward to some fun shows and a little tour planning. Thank you for asking us to do this. We appreciate you."
