The 3.31.23 Amplifiedsd Publication Release Show!
3.31.23 is an important day in the brief Amplifiedsd history. On March 31, we officially launched the Amplifiedsd.com website (the site you are on now!). Not only did the site launch formally, but so did the AmplifiedSD podcast, which you can listen to by clicking here. To celebrate the hard work put into the organization of the podcast and the publication site, we threw a show in Studio B at Amplified Studios. Let's look at how the event went and what local talent was showcased!
KELPBEDS
Kelpbeds, an indie rock band from San Diego, California, opened the night for us. The band was formed in 2022 by two current members, Peter Semenza (vox/guitar) and Jack Andolina (guitar). Now, in 2023, the band consists of five members. The band is in complete form, with Megan Beasley on bass and saxophone, Luke Johnson on the synth, and Wiki Alva on the drums. Their most recent release was a six-song EP titled "Kelp Lounge," which was positively received by their fans. Overall, they put on a fantastic show. If you want to get pumped up at a live performance, Kelpbeds will have you dancing all night long.

DOLL RIOT
Next up on the bill was Doll Riot. Doll Riot originated in 2020 by the four high schoolers in the band from north county San Diego. The band comprises lead singer Elena Olszak, guitarist Ella Sauer, bassists London Kraus, and drummer Lillee Gillum. This femme-fronted band makes punk/garage rock-type music and has become one of my favorite local bands due to their live performance and overall tightness when playing together. Doll Riot's most recent single, "Those Days," came out on March 24, 2023. So if you are looking for music heavily inspired by bands like Hole, L7, and No Doubt, Doll Riot is the band for you!

TOPEKA CLEMENTINE
Third up on the lineup was the excellent Topeka Clementine. Playing this show as a duo rather than a full band, TC put on an incredibly inanimate performance that made everyone in the audience feel included and like they were making a new friend. Topeka Clementine makes lo-fi/indie pop music and was a perfect change of pace from the high-energy Doll Riot, and Kelpbeds brought to the stage. Their most recent release, "Back to the Barn," came out on March 24, 2023. This album consists of live recordings from BarnTime. My favorite is the track titled "unhinged interlude." Topeka Clementine's new album will leave you dancing around like a character in Charlie Brown. Go check these enbys out!

DADDY
Last but certainly not least was Daddy. This was my first time seeing Daddy, and they completely blew my mind! Daddy consists of four members, Booke (lead vox/guitar), Jess (bass), Franky (lead guitar), and Jack (drums). The band played as a three-piece for this show, with a fill-in drummer. Considering that they were playing without their full band set up, I was taken away by how powerful and complete their sound remained. With songs ranging from heartache to hypothetical shark attacks, Daddy will leave you bouncing up and down from your seat! In addition, the band has some great-sounding demos out on SoundCloud and some high-quality live performance videos that I recommend checking out.

Overall, the event was better than we could have ever imagined. Thank the fantastic bands, Kelpbeds, Doll Riot, Topeka Clementine, and Daddy, for putting on an excellent show. Upset you missed this show? Well, don't worry! Amplifiedsd is throwing shows at Amplified Studios once a month now. Our next showcase will be on 4/28/23, with unique acts such as Samantha Marie, Hannah Robuccio, and many more!
