Morskie Oko, meaning “Eye of the Sea” in Polish, is as much a reflection of San Diego’s coastal culture as it is a critique. “Born to Weep is a realization that daily life can be a struggle and that even in paradise it’s okay to be dissatisfied with the status quo and, sometimes, have the itch to scream and get the fuck out,” the band says. This single marks the first step in the band’s sonic voyage through a dystopian, post-paradise Southern California. It seizes the band’s view of a “beachside utopia” collapsing under its own crises, offering listeners the sense of waking up to a world that feels almost right – but still deeply, unsettlingly wrong.
